The six measurements
- Diameter. Measure across the wheel from blade tip to blade tip, straight through the center. Measure in two places and use the larger number; a worn wheel can be slightly out of round.
- Width. Measure from the outside of one end ring to the outside of the other. Don't include the hub if it sticks out past the ring.
- Bore. Measure the shaft hole, or better, the shaft itself with calipers. Note any keyway and how many set screws there are.
- Hub. Note whether the hub sits inside the wheel or outside it, and how far it sits from the edge.
- Rotation. We determine rotation from the back side of the wheel. See how to read rotation.
- Inlet. A single inlet wheel is open on one side. A double inlet wheel is open on both sides with a disc in the middle. See single vs double inlet.
Photos that help
Take one photo of the front, one of the back and one of the side, with a tape measure in each. Add a close-up of the hub and any label. Photos let us confirm blade shape, material and hub details that numbers alone don't show.
If the wheel is damaged
A rusted, bent or broken wheel can still be copied. Send what you have, or ship us the wheel, and we build an exact match. Start a duplication request.
Next step
With your diameter, look up the standard widths and bores on the blower wheel size chart, or filter them in the Wheel Finder. Don't see your size? We custom make it.
Questions
What if my measurement falls between two standard sizes?
Wheels are named by nominal size, so a worn wheel often measures a little small. Send the numbers and photos and we confirm the size, or build it to your exact measurement.
Do I need the old wheel to get a replacement?
No. Measurements and photos are usually enough. For unusual wheels we may ask you to ship it.
